Donated services

Do a job for a school or charity, free

PAT testing, a minibus safety check, printing, or use of a room or equipment. A business offers the service, a school or charity requests it, and they confirm when it's done.

Ideas that work well

  • PAT testing for a school or charity's equipment
  • A minibus or vehicle safety check
  • Printing leaflets, banners or programmes
  • Use of a meeting room, hall or equipment
  • A one-off trade job, such as a repair
  • A service over a fixed period, up to 12 months

How it works

Businesses offer

Ready to give

  1. A business lists the service in Ready to give: what's included, where and when it's available.

  2. A school or charity requests it.

  3. The business approves and they agree a date.

  4. Afterwards, the school or charity confirms the service was provided.

Schools and charities ask

Help wanted

  1. A school or charity posts what it needs in Help wanted: what, why, where and by when.

  2. A business offers to provide the service and declares its value.

  3. The school or charity accepts. They agree a date and the school or charity records its checks for work on site.

  4. Afterwards, the school or charity confirms the service was provided.

How services are recorded

  • The business declares the value of the service. It appears on its dashboard and reports as a donated service, confirmed by the school or charity.
  • A service counts only once the school or charity confirms it was provided.
  • Services are recorded separately from goods and from volunteering hours.
  • The VAT relief for donating goods to charities does not apply to services. Ask your accountant about your own tax position.

Checks

For work on site, checks, insurance and safeguarding are arranged between the school or charity and the business. CommuniTie connects you and keeps the record.

Questions

Does it cost the school or charity anything?

No. The service is free to them, and CommuniTie is free for schools and charities.

Who decides the value?

The business declares it. Reports show it as a business-declared value.

Can a school or charity ask for a service that isn't listed?

Yes. Choose Add to your wishlist, then A service done for us. A business offers to provide it and declares a value. The school or charity accepts, agrees a date and confirms when it has been provided.
