Landfill diversion

Record the estimated weight of goods you pass on, for your ESG and social value reporting.

Tax example: buying goods to donate

A purchase example, separate from donating stock or equipment you already own

Purchase price including 20% VAT£200
VAT reclaimed (£200 ÷ 6)−£33.33
Corporation tax relief (£166.67 × 25%)−£41.67
Your net cost£125
1.6x
Goods value / example net cost
£200
Purchase value of goods donated

Assumes full purchase VAT recovery, a deductible expense at 25% corporation tax and a qualifying donation. Existing surplus does not create a new purchase expense. Tender valuation follows the buyer’s framework.

For a £120 purchase: You pay £75. The school or charity gets something that would have cost them up to £120 from their own budget, freeing that money for other things they need.

A few useful answers

Is there a minimum value for donations?

No minimum. From a box of stationery to office furniture, if a charity can use it, it counts. Small donations add up for tax and social value reporting.

Who arranges collection?

You and the charity agree on logistics. Most charities will collect, but you can deliver if easier. We just connect you - the rest is flexible.

What documentation do I get?

Automatic donation certificates with HMRC charity reference numbers, item values, and dates. Note: recipients must hold an HMRC charity reference. A school URN or Charity Commission number alone is not sufficient to qualify for VAT relief. Export CSV reports for your accountant or tender submissions.

Can I donate to specific causes?

Yes. You can accept or decline any request. Schools near your office, charities in your sector, causes your team cares about - you choose.
